Best euro exchange rate: how to compare before you exchange in Miami

24-hour rate lock

The number on the sign is only half the story. The spread, anything added on top and whether the rate is held until you pay are what decide how many euros you walk out with. Here's what to compare, and how ours works, before you commit to anything.

What actually makes a euro rate good or bad

Two places can post a similar euro exchange rate and still hand you different amounts of cash. What matters isn't the headline number; it's what's left after the spread and after anything that gets tacked on at the end. So before you hand money over anywhere, get three answers on screen or in writing.

  • Ask for the buy rate and the sell rate. The gap between them is where the cost hides.
  • Is the number you were quoted the final number, or does something get added once you say yes?
  • A rate that can still move while you think it over isn't really a quote yet.

How to compare euro rates in about five minutes

Most people end up comparing quotes that were never comparable in the first place. A euro rate moves during the day, and it changes with the amount and with the direction you're going, so line those up before you decide who's cheaper. Run the same scenario everywhere and the differences show up fast.

  • Use the same amount at every stop. Pricing on $300 and pricing on $3,000 don't always match.
  • Dollars into euros and euros into dollars are two separate prices, and one tells you nothing about the other.
  • Were the quotes taken the same day? Rates keep moving while you shop around, so within the same hour is better.

How our euro rate works, from quote to pickup

You can price the whole thing from your phone. Type your amount on our home page and you'll see where the euro sits right now. At checkout we confirm the exact rate for your amount, and the moment you place the order that rate is locked for 24 hours. It doesn't change between your screen and the counter.

  • Order online and pick up the cash the same day, or just walk in any time we're open.
  • The rate you accept at checkout is the rate you get at the counter, held for a full 24 hours.
  • We count the cash in front of you and hand you a receipt, in English or Spanish.

Once you've compared, pick your direction

Comparing is the easy part. What comes next depends on whether you need euros for a trip or you're sitting on euros you'd like turned back into dollars. Those are two different prices and two different pages. We do both, and more than 70 currencies in all, at the Bayside Marketplace kiosk in Downtown Miami and at Coral Ridge Mall in Fort Lauderdale. Moving a large amount? Set up an appointment so the bills are ready when you get there.

  • Flying to Europe? Buy euros at the rate we confirm for your amount at checkout.
  • If you came home with euros left over, we buy them back and pay you in dollars.
  • You can also check the address and hours before you drive over.

What people ask us at the counter

Do you need an appointment? No. You can walk in at either counter while we're open, and what we can do on the spot depends on the currency and the amount we're holding that day. Are the hours the same at both? They're not: Miami runs 9 AM to 7 PM, and Fort Lauderdale opens at 11 AM and closes at 7 PM. And if you order online in the morning and show up after lunch, does the rate move? It doesn't. It's locked for 24 hours from the moment you place the order.
